Unusually strong flooding wave destroys everything on its path on the slopes of Iran highest volcano

This is apocalyptic! Totally scary! Look at what snow melt looks like in Iran this year. Huge mass of black waters hurtling down the slopes of Mount Damavand, and destroying everything on its path! And the floods will continue over next week!

According to the official news network, the village of Ghazaneh and the city of Ghaznak, in the province of Mazandaran, were engulfed and some infrastructures destroyed by a powerful and unusually strong torrent of black water coming from the melting of glaciers of Mount Damavand, a potentially active stratovolcano which is the highest peak in Iran and the highest volcano in Asia.

Actually an annual phenomenon, this year’s flooding is excessive partly because of the very hot and short winter. Ice started melting faster. More water accumulated producing unusually strong floods in comparison to previous years.

The destructive floods caused a lot of damages in the areas it went through. A bridge in construction has collapsed, several houses were completely destroyed, trees uprooted in parcs and gardens. As flooding continues, damage will increase too.

Damavand is a significant mountain in Persian mythology. The origins and meaning of the word “Damavand” is unclear, yet some have speculated that it probably means “The mountain from which smoke and ash arises”, alluding to the volcanic nature of the mountain. In Zoroastrian texts and mythology, the three-headed dragon Aži Dahāka was chained within Mount Damāvand, there to remain until the end of the world. The volcano is also the symbol of Iranian resistance against despotism and foreign rule in Persian poetry and literature. It is also said that the mountain holds magical powers.

Destructive mass of flooding water is currently hurtling down the highest volcanic peak of Iran destroying everything on its path.

So my word to the people living on the slope of this volcano: Don’t worry! It’s not the end of the world (although it really looks similar to it for me), the three-headed dragon isn’t coming out of the volcano. But please do not even approach the banks of rivers in the area as you could suddenly be swept away by such a massive flooding wave! Be careful and patient… It’s seasonal! Well hopefully!
