The 16th-century artist is widely regarded as the greatest intellects of all time and is often labelled a genius for some of his masterpiece works of artHis most famous work, the Mona Lisa, holds the Guinness World Record for the highest insurance value of over £700millionHowever, The Last Supper is almost just as well known globally, being the most reproduced religious painting ever.

The artwork represents the scene of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles, as it is told in the Gospel of John, 13:21.

Da Vinci depicted the feeling that occurred among the Twelve Apostles when Jesus announced that one of them would betray him.

However, there may be a second message within the piece revealing the true end of the world, Netflix’s “Top 10 Mysteries and Secrets” revealed.

“He took great care to highlight the number three,” the 2017 documentary stated.

“There are three windows and three groups of apostles.

“Was he simply emphasising the Christian holy spirit, or is it hiding something much more?

“The speculation doesn’t stop there, the numbers hide a dark prophecy about the end of the world.”

According to Sabrina Sforza Galitzia, a Vatican researcher, Da Vinci predicted a global flood on March 21, 4006, which, he claims, will wipe out the human race.

“There is a da Vinci code – it is just not the one made popular by Dan Brown,” she said.

Ms Galitzia examined a tapestry of The Last Supper made for King Louis XIII of France, based on da Vinci’s design for his famous mural in Milan.

She worked on a sequel to explain da Vinci’s “code”, involving signs of the Zodiac and his use of the 24 letters of the Latin alphabet to represent the 24 hours of the day.

She claimed to have worked out that da Vinci foresaw the end of the world in a “universal flood” that would begin on March 21, 4006,  and end on November 1 the same year.
