Yellowstone features dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs and gushing geysers, including its most famous, Old Faithful.

The super volcano last erupted 700,000 years ago but experts say it should ‘blow every one million years or so’.

Extraterrestrial-esque mineral rich pools are caused by bacteria and thermophiles growing around the edges, creating the striking colours. 

The heat from three super eruptions thousands of years ago still powers the parks geysers, hot springs, fumaroles and mud pots.
