The Popocatepetl volcano has increased its activity with more frequent individual explosions.
During during the last 24 hours, 160 exhalations (passive emissions of steam, gas and/or ash), 548 minutes of low amplitude tremor, and a comparably large number of 16 explosions occurred.
Seven of these occurred yesterday at 09:33, 13:25, 16:00, 16:38, 17:35, 20:44 and 23:27 local time, the others today at 00:15, 01:28, 02:12, 02:35, 02:50, 03:16, 06:20, 07:13 and 08:46.
Ash plumes rose to approx. 20-24,000 ft (6-7 km) altitude.
The latest warning by Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) Washington warned about a volcanic ash plume that rose up to estimated 22,000 ft (6710 m) altitude or flight level 220 and is moving at 10-15 kts in W direction.
