A break in the clouds allowed the sunlight to seep through in the form of a crucifix. The mesmerising beam of light shines down on Earth, looking eerily similar to the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. Italian artist Alfredo Lo Brutto snapped a picture of the stunning shot in which it looks like a man’s arms are stretched across the sky.
Many have likened the image to Christ being crucified and claim it could indeed be a sign from God.
Mr Lo Brutto quickly shared the image on Facebook, where it has since gone viral.
The Facebook post read: “I was enchanted by the view. I don’t often share pictures on social media, but when I took this one, I instantly felt like I wanted other people to see, because it was so beautiful.”
One person commented on the image: “It really looks like Jesus, the head, the arms, congratulations” while another described it as a “unique and sensational shot.”
Italian website Info Cilento said: “A luminous figure that seems human, the classic blessing Christ that we see in many depictions.
“A shape so resembling that it seems real and that is attracting the attention of many people.”
Prominent conspiracy theorist Scott C Waring goes even further, believing it is a sign from God.
Mr Waring wrote: “It seems to show Jesus in a rob with a crown of thorns. I do believe in signs and believe this has some real purpose for being there.”
Just last year, Catholics in the Philippines also saw what they believed was an apparition of Christ on Easter Sunday.
Shortly after sun rise, rays of light could be seen beaming through the dark clouds – forming an unmistakable glow reminiscent of Christ Himself.
He appears to be looking down on followers – and the outline of His thorny crown is even visible in the sky.
The woman who took the picture on her phone said “God is watching us” and swore that the images were not edited.
Leona Tomolin said: “This was Jesus appearing yesterday. He was showing Himself to the congregation of Catholics.”
