A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the JMA as M6.0 hit off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 08:18 UTC (17:18 LT) on April 11, 2019. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). USGS is reporting M6.1 at a depth of 12.2 km (7.6 miles). EMSC is reporting M6.2 at a depth of 15 km (9.3 miles).
The epicenter was located about 133 km (83 miles) E of Kuji, 144 km (90 miles) NE of Miyako and 153 km (95 miles) E of Hachinohe, Japan.
There are no people living within 100 km (62 miles).
There is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
The USGS issued a green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
