This stunning Quadrantid meteor was spotted over Spain at 00:42 UTC on January 4, 2018 (01:42 local time), during the peak activity of this meteor shower. The event lasted about 6 seconds before the object disintegrated.
The meteor overflew the Mediterranean Sea. It began at a height of around 111 km (69 miles), and ended at an altitude of about 84 km (52 miles) over the sea.
The object was recorded in the framework of the SMART Project (University of Huelva) from the astronomical observatories of Sierra Nevada (Granada), Calar Alto (Almería), La Sagra (Granada), La Hita (Toledo), Huelva and Sevilla.
