Another massive sandstorm engulfs Rajasthan and NW India

Just days after extremely powerful thunderstorms and sandstorms swept over parts of India, claiming lives of over 125 people, another massive sandstorm swept over its northwestern states on the evening of May 7, 2018.

The storm hit parts of Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, disrupting power supply at some places in the states.

Earlier in the day, the IMD issued an alert forecast hat several parts of north India could witness thunderstorm and squall with winds gusting up to 50 – 70 km (31 – 43 mph). The amber-colored alert indicated severe weather for parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim and West Bengal.

In Rajasthan’s Bikaner region, on-road and air visibility dropped to almost zero, forcing locals to take cover inside buildings.

In what looked like a scene out of a horror or a thriller movie, the sandstorm dwarfed buildings and trees as it swept through the city – aided amply by relatively high-speed winds, Zee News reported.

There were no reports of deaths or injuries.
